I attended the Ryman Ball & Presentation evening on Saturday. A new format to the evening, a more relaxed & informal affair they said, which was something the caterers and bar staff fully embraced. I preferred the old format. I'm not knocking the League by the way, I think they do a superb job.
I was shocked to hear that that the Staines chairman, Alan Boon, was unable to attend due to a recent heart attack. My best wishes go out to Alan and his family.
Had a good chat with my non-league friend Danny Hunter...
...He is Chairman of Boreham Wood and does a fantastic job there. Danny is now known to me as the “ice man” because he was the only person at the venue who had, or could get ice, I think he must have been cabbing it in from the local pub.
As we were chatting a Wealdstone official joined us and after he picked his chin up of the floor at the sight of an ice-filled, chinking glass the conversation got round to a certain player. I had to laugh because they both had an identical story about said player…you know, how he wasn’t happy at his present club and wanted to join them, how a wage had been agreed, and how the player was a day away from joining them when his existing club made an offer he couldn’t refuse. But what was making me smile is we had exactly the same words and story from the same player. He must have whored himself around the whole division with a written script.
There was no comedian this year, although Theo Paphitis' right-hand man Kypros Kyprianou did his best, he’s got a long way to go to catch up with our Trev though.
Anyway, to top it all I missed the BTFC BBQ which was a shame, a nice touch from Shavinio to pop along. Don’t forget the golf day, if you can book early it will be appreciated. Especially as The Burstead Golf Club have agreed to continue their sponsorship with us. Its important that we support our sponsors whenever we can
See you all soon.
